Club Europa

You can.

In Jubilee Year 2000, Club Europa transported more than 2,800 young Christians to Rome for World Youth Day. The 2005 WYD - complete with Papal festivities - is set to happen in Cologne, Germany, and we're hoping to take you along.

The best way to start...

Ask your parish youth minister whether they might want to form a travel group. Normally our groups start at around 25 participants, but if you can't find enough interested parties in your parish, Club Europa may be able to put you in touch with other parties with similar travel interests to yours.

To get an idea of the possibilities, look at the sample itineraries below. In the first one you'd stay in Germany. In the second, you'd start in Paris and travel your way to the WYD events. The third sample includes time in Germany, Switzerland, and Rome.

The History of Cologne...

Kölner Dom in Cologne

Cologne, which means "colony", has been an important city since its founding around 50 A.D. Two hundred fifty years later, as the capital of the Roman province of Germania, "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium", as the city was then known, Cologne had a population of 300,000 - about one-third its present size. In Medieval times Cologne flourished as a center of transportation, trade, education - and religion.

The prosperity of these times resulted in the construction of the Kölner Dom.

Archbishop Reinald von Dassel brought the relics of the three Magi (the "wise men") from Milan to Cologne in 1163, and in response, the church fathers then authorized the construction of a grand cathedral to house these important relics. Cologne is now a modern city of 1,000,000 citizens, taking its place in forging a new Europe. Kölner Dom in the evening.
